The full name of Antar Laniyan is Antar Babatunde Laniyan. He’s a well-known Nigerian actor, director, and producer. He is well-known in the Yoruba film industry and occasionally in Nollywood.
Antar Laniyan Early Life and Education
Antar was born on the 26th of May in Lagos to the late Laniyans. Antar Babatunde Laniyan was born in Osogbo, Osun, and grew up there.
The iguana, also known as Aworiwon or Antar in Yoruba, inspired his first name, Antar.
According to the actor, he stayed too long in his mother’s womb, and his parents were afraid they would lose him. As a result, the family sought the assistance of a herbalist, who requested an iguana as one of the sacrificial items to be used in the preparation of a concoction that his mother would take to induce labor. He was born after his mother consumed this concoction, prompting his mother to name him after the animal.

When asked about his parents in an interview, Antar revealed that his father, I. A. Laniyan, was strict and had many policies, but he also loved his children.
Antar also revealed that when he first started acting in high school, his father dubbed him ‘Antar D Sango’ after he showed him a picture of himself playing the thunder god in a stage play.
Because his mother was the chief at the mammy market, he spent his early years in the barrack, and his time there almost influenced him to join the military.
Antar attended a Baptist secondary school in Lagos State before attending the University of Ibadan and earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts.
Antar was already heavily involved in acting prior to his university education, but his mentor, Ben Tomoloju, also known as Pappy Ben, advised him to pursue a university education as well. Pappy Ben was a former deputy editor of The Guardian as well as a culture journalist, activist, essayist, poet, and singer. Pappy Ben had prepared the young Antar well, so he was able to gain admission easily.
Antar was able to hone his acting skills at university thanks to mentors such as the late Prof Dapo Adelugba, Dr. Femi Fatoba, and Uncle Bayo Oduneye.

Antar Laniyan Career
His interest in acting was sparked by a performance he saw at the 1977 Festival of Black Arts and Civilisation (FESTAC 77). His career as a performer and actor, however, began in 1976, when he was in secondary school.
Antar’s acting career began in 1981. At the time, he was being mentored by Pappy Ben.
The actor revealed that he met Pappy Ben during a school drama competition held among schools in Lagos. He was a judge as well as the director of Saka Tinubu Memorial High School’s drama group.
Pappy Ben persuaded him to join the drama group Kaakaki Arts. He was trained by Jahman Anikulapo and Tunji Sotimirin, and he began performing and becoming popular not long after.
His first major role as an actor was as a major general in the film ‘Everybody Wants to Know.’ This was back when he was a member of the Kakaki Art Squad.
He also appeared in a number of Nigerian films, including Sango, which was written by Wale Ogunyemi and produced by Obafemi Lasode.
In the year 2000, he directed the first episode of Super Story, an award-winning Nigerian soap opera produced by Wale Adenuga. Oh Father Oh Daughter and This Life, both produced by Wale Adenuga, were also directed by him.
